Cognitive STEM & Math Test Building – Shoresh

Upcoming Course(s)

June 30th, 2024

July 5th, 2024

In an ever-changing and complex world, STEM (Science, Technology, & Mathematics) education provides students with the necessary skills to meet technological challenges and inspire innovation. Yet the important, foundational brain-based skills needed for success are not packaged in the detailed STEM lesson plans. Moreover, the majority of STEM exams test the memorization of facts rather than creative problem-solving.

Cognitive STEM approach fills in these gaps. The workshop prepares teachers to intentionally and explicitly mediate these critical learning skills in a systematic way. The workshop is open to educators involved in teaching STEM subjects. No previous experience with Feuerstein methodology is required. The basic elements of Feuerstein approach are included into the workshop program.

The course curriculum focuses on such cognitive STEM areas as:

  • Development of data extraction skills
  • Pattern recognition
  • Categorical reasoning skills

In addition, the participants will learn how to render the math exams as fitting the “Response to Intervention” (RTI) model including:

How to improve exam construction (multiple choice and open-ended);

How to achieve higher reliability and validity;

How to allow for a better analysis of students’ knowledge;

How to improve the analysis of students’ errors

Learning Materials:

The participants are required to bring their own laptop computers for the experience with digital materials and are encouraged to bring copies of math and science tasks from their schools for hands-on exercises. All course participants will receive a booklet “Cognitive STEM” and a set of cognitive (IE) tasks.

Certificate of attendance:

The participants will receive the certificate of attendance of “Cognitive STEM and math test building” course of 52 academic hours.
