I’ve known Lou Falik for 35 years, first as a student in the real Shoresh, later as a colleague in the “Shoresh” workshops in Europe. I very much appreciated him. He was a special person, very dedicated to “Feuerstein’s cause”, but also very dedicated to all the people involved, children as well as adults. A warm human being, with concern for children and adults in need. He was always plenty of good stories and optimistic viewpoints. He also was concerned with writing the theory and practice of Feuerstein’s methods. We will miss him deeply

I was privileged to learn from and share time with Lou over a number of years in Melbourne and in several European Shoresh locations. His impact on so many lives will be felt and appreciated for many years to come. Such a lovely man with a great zest for life. A great educator. He will be sorely missed.

I remember Lou as being a passionate loving kind human being. Of course, we talked about child development and shared our different theories, but I remember how he once proudly explained to me the brave exploits of the Jewish resistance in Warsaw. Lou gave a lasting impression on all those he met. He was a good, very good man.

The NILD community joins the Feuerstein community in mourning the passing of Professor Lou Falik. Lou was not only a dear friend but also a cherished mentor to our community, including Dr. Kathy Hopkins and myself. His deep engagement in Professor Feuerstein’s theoretical constructs and his dedication to the practical application of mediated learning profoundly enriched our work and understanding. His wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support for NILD will be deeply missed.

Lou and Marilynn’s generosity extended beyond their intellectual contributions; in 2010, they graciously opened their home in Israel to Kathy and me when we brought Jenny Jenson to visit Professor Feuerstein at the Institute. More recently, in 2022, Lou and I worked closely together as he prepared and presented mediated learning concepts to our NILD Level III certified educational therapists. That collaboration was both meaningful and inspiring, a testament to his lifelong commitment to advancing educational thought and practice.

I am profoundly grateful for the privilege of learning from Lou and for his steadfast support of NILD’s mission over the decades. His legacy will live on through the many scholars and educators he influenced, and his impact will continue to shape our work for years to come.
    With deepest sympathy and respect,

    Kristin Barbour, NILD Executive Director

    To the Feuerstein team,
It’s a very sad news, hard to accept that Prof. Falik is no more in our presence.
However, his actions, words of inspiration and love to teach will always be cherished.
I have been in touch occassionally for almost 25 years.
I first heard him talk of MLE at the Alpha to Omega conference somewhere in the year 2002 or so.
I was very much convinced so l pursued learning Basic, LPAD, Standard IE. And finally made it to Master level I. He had a great sense of humor while teaching. He often modulated his voice so that we pay attention and understand clearly.
I have achieved a lot of skills and insight in mediating.
A year ago, he made time to go through my students video and wanted to give me inputs in December while in India as per the plan. However, due to my tight schedule and my accident l couldn’t make it.
He has shown us how to live a mediated life till our last breath.

Dear friends from the Feuerstein Institute,

I come before you with deep sorrow for the loss of our dear professor and friend Lou Falik…

His teachings will remain alive in my mind, for the openness that he always showed, sharing his knowledge with his students and friends, and for the hope he offered to those he taught for a change to endure, following the footsteps of our beloved Professor Reuven Feuerstein, as his faithful disciple.

I am particularly thankful to the Lord for a special moment in which Lou allowed me to pray for him some years ago… that seed was planted…

Praying today the same for the entire Feuerstein family around the world, and always praying for the Peace of Israel,

    With sincere affect,

    María Alida de Brugal

I met Lou Falik approximately 20 years ago when IE training was first offered in South Africa. I continued with LPAD training, IE Basic and IE Tactile. Since then Lou has been part of my thinking, learning and being path. He was a brilliant man and spoke about neuro diversity before the concept became generally known, his facilitation skills were an example for all of us who call ourselves facilitators.
I will remember Lou’s humility and he always invited other opinions or comments. I was honoured when he asked me to read the manuscript of “Integrating social cognition into therapeutic practice” and provide him with feedback and we were able to discuss my comments. Lou was a brilliant author and his writing style was easy to read and understand. He was a very good listener that really listened and had a wonderful sense of humour.
Lou loved South Africa and two of his South African Highlights were when we had to assess 500 people in a week using the Group LPAD to decide who should be included in a specific learning programme, and a school project where we facilitated IE to teachers across the country. Very hard work but we had fun as well and the results were astounding, not only of the teachers but of the improvement in learner performance.
I will miss Lou but remember the lessons I have learnt from him.

    Dear Feuerstein Community,

I first met Professor Falik in 1994 in Jerusalem where I went through a intensive LPAD test and IE training. Lou healed the trauma I had when he put his arms around my mother and myself where I could release my tears. Later, in 2001 I began training in Zandvoort and attended every Shoresh until Paris 2007. I was invited to work at the Machon in 2002 and Stayed with Louis and Marilynn and was given the opportunity to work as a cognitive therapist myself until 2006. Louis made me believe strongly in my own abilities and potential again as I do until now. Louis gave me the tools, strenghth and hope to thrive. The most precious moments where the Shabat eveings at Reuvens house with his beloved Bertha and the blessings all the children and grandchildren received at the Shabbat table. I used to go with Lou to Reuvens and listen to the most touching stories and just be in awe of the dept of the conversations and was also deeply touched by the commitment Louis had towards Reuven. The bond of trust was deep between the three of us and those moments are forever held in the memory of my Soul. Louis has departed from us now but his legacy and blueprint will foremost help those in need now and in the future because Louis has written these stories patently down. Hosanna to his loving Soul so full of care and positivity. Bat’s lechem mispacha Feuerstein. Ani Ohev ot chem!. Maarten Horst.

Lou Falik had a spectrum of fantastic character traits. I was always amazed by his sense of humor. His office was next to mine, and the door to his office was always open. When he saw me passing by, he always claimed: “No one can deny that today is Thursday – after all, it is Gouzman’s day”.
Lou, for almost 20 years, on all Shoresh, entered the room where I was teaching Tactile Instrumental Enrichment, sat in the back, listened attentively, and took notes. Year after year. And he always found something new to share with me. He was my co-author. Without his intensive structuring of my Tactile USER’S GUIDE it would not have turned out so clear and attractive.
Our love to you, dear Lou!

I had the privilege of meeting Professor Lou Falik when I attended the Feuerstein program in Israel. Although the meeting was brief and for a couple of occasion Lou Falik came across to me as a very committed and dedicated person, with a warm and compassionate heart. He had the gift of making people feel valued and listened to. He was deeply involved in the Vision of the Feuerstein institute and encouraged all of us engaged in the field to give of our best for the betterment of human kind. My life was richer foe having met a person of his simplicity and calibre. May he rest in Peace.
