About the Course

This course introduces you to Instrumental Enrichment Basic (FIE Basic), a process-oriented cognitive enrichment program, created specifically for young learners. Rather than teaching your child what to think, this tools develop how they think: the foundational functions of self-regulation, planning, conceptualization, comparison, and emotional awareness that make all later learning possible.

Over the course of our sessions, you will learn to use specially designed “instruments” — carefully structured tasks and activities — that you can mediate with your own child at home. Each instrument targets a different cognitive strategy, and each one is playful enough for a young child and deep enough to change how they approach a problem.

You will not simply read about the theory. You will work through the instruments yourself, experience what they demand of a learner, and practice the criteria of mediation — the language, questioning and pacing that turn an ordinary activity into a thinking workout.

Course Syllabus

• Theories of cognitive development and cognitive modifiability
• Introduction to Mediated Learning Experience (MLE)
• Analysis of emergent cognitive functions in typically developing children and in children with learning differences.
• Organization of Dots: Helps control impulsivity by guiding children to slow down and plan their path before drawing.
• Identifying Emotions: Enriches emotional vocabulary using nuanced labels, thereby guiding children to self-regulate.
• From Unit to Group: Lays a foundation for math thinking by mediating to children problem-solving strategies.

Trainer

Michael Wolff is an educator, social worker, and senior educational leader with extensive experience in special education, psychosocial rehabilitation, and teacher training. He currently serves as Professional Director of the Education Department at the Feuerstein Institute, where he leads the training of educational teams, develops leadership programs for school administrators, and conducts workshops in Israel and abroad. Previously, he was Principal of the Feuerstein Special Education School for students with special needs, and earlier coordinated psychosocial services for people with disabilities. Michael holds degrees in social work and education, along with specialized training in the Feuerstein Method, special education, and facilitation. His work reflects a long-standing commitment to educational innovation, inclusion, and the advancement of learners with diverse needs.
